This exhibition brings together four accomplished ceramic artists whose distinct sculptural practices offer compelling explorations of the versatility of clay. It celebrates the breadth of contemporary ceramic art while inviting visitors to discover the creative and technical possibilities of the medium. Our goal is to broaden appreciation for ceramic artistry throughout thunder bay and the surrounding communities by highlighting diverse artistic voices and approaches. From the transformation of raw earth into expressive sculpture, the exhibition encourages curiosity about our local geology, natural materials, and the remarkable intersection of art, craft, and science. We hope this collection will inspire emerging artists, spark meaningful conversations, and foster a deeper understanding of the creative potential found beneath our feet.

Kat Twomey

is an experimental production artist, making her own clay and glazes and creating landscape sculptures where she dreams she would like to live. Imaginary, spiritual reflecting pools to illicit tranquility, grotesque caverns to generate apprehension. She works largely with experimental surface treatments, creating and combining high gloss surfaces with matte, opaque ones. @black.dog.ceramics

Georgia Wilkins

draws inspiration for her functional ceramics from time spent along Lake Superior shores. She gathers materials, like sands and clays, and experiments with ways to combine them into her wheel thrown wares. Georgia loves engaging with the firing process using atmospheric kilns such as wood, salt and soda. @georgiawilkinsceramics

Katie Lemieux

works with the human figure in connection with psychology, generating scenarios of inward reflection and outward societal navigation. As a PSW, Katie pulls her inspiration from her non-verbal clients and individuals she supports. @studio.lemieux

Katy Poirier

is a sculpture artist that pulls inspiration from fantasy and anthropomorphism. She combines wildlife often seen within Northwestern Ontario and combines them into human forms, challenging the viewer to see ourselves as a more connected species, intertwined with our surroundings in both a physical sense and metaphorical. Katy sculpts in small scale, encouraging the viewer to come closer. Katy is also a new-generation artist living and working in Thunder Bay. @katyp.arts
