Co.Lab Gallery presents,
BIOPHILIA
NOAH TUOMISTO
July 10- July 22, 2026
Art Opening July 10th, 7-10pm
BIOPHILIA marks Noah Tuomisto's second solo exhibition with Co.Lab Gallery, continuing
an intuitive practice rooted in observation, memory, and an enduring connection to the natural world. While his previous exhibition, Creatures of My Mind, explored the subconscious through imagined forms and spontaneous imagery, this new body of work turns its attention to the landscapes and living things that have quietly shaped his life.
Over the past two months, working across painting, drawing, and mixed media Tuomisto embraces experimentation over predictability. Rather than beginning with a fixed outcome, each work develops through instinct, allowing material, gesture, and subject to evolve together. The result is a collection that feels both deliberate and deeply personal, reflecting an artist increasingly confident in following curiosity wherever it leads.
The exhibition draws inspiration from the forests surrounding Thunder Bay, years spent translating organic forms into tattoo designs, and the everyday relationships that influence his practice. Birds, flowers, and other familiar subjects emerge not simply as studies of nature, but as symbols of memory & affection. Their forms shift between realism and illustration, carrying the expressive quality that has become central to Tuomisto's visual language.
The title Biophilia - the innate human affinity for living things - speaks not only to the exhibition's imagery, but to the artist's process. These works are less about documenting the natural world than about expressing a lifelong relationship with it. Nature becomes both subject and collaborator, offering endless variation and beloved imperfection.
In Biophilia, Tuomisto continues to dissolve the boundaries between fine art and tattoo. He leads with traditional drawing skills and illustrative representation... but dives deep into imagination and surprise. What emerges is a body of work that celebrates growth through making; an honest reflection of an artist following his instincts and allowing his practice to evolve naturally.
