Co.Lab Gallery presents
AANIKOOBIDOON II
Stringing together past, present and future
October 10 – October 30, 2025
Aanikoobidoon means to string something together. It speaks not only to acts of making, but to the weaving of relationships between people, between generations, and between human and more-than-human kin. It is an act of connection, continuation, and care.
Now in its second iteration, Aanikoobidoon II is a celebration of Anishinaabe and Métis relationships with plant kin, bringing together 15 established and emerging artists:
Caitlyn Bird, Alicia Brink, BELMO, Cher Chapman, Sheila Demerah, Nancy Gouliquer, Margaret Firlotte, Sara Gilbert, Katie Longboat, Mary Magiskan, Leanna Marshall, Helen Pelletier, Amber Sandy, Zoey Therriault, and Jamie Thompson.
For generations, plants have provided us with healing, nourishment, protection, and inspiration. From birch trees to wildflowers, from roots and bark to leaves and petals, the artists in this exhibition build upon the traditions and customs of our ancestors where each thread, fibre, carving, or form becomes a vessel for memory, a conduit of ancestral knowledge, and a gesture toward the future. This exhibition invites you to contemplate the quiet and enduring strength of plants and the gifts they continue to offer.
